Art Exhibit: New Works by Ocean County Artist Guild (2nd Floor Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host, New Works, a month-long exhibit by Ocean County Artists’ Guild.The collection, which will be displayed in the Toms River Branch’s 2nd Floor Gallery during October. The Ocean County Artists’ Guild is a non-profit organization working to promote the arts in Ocean County drawing in artists and patrons from around the region. Their mission is to serve the artists and community: to provide and outlet and training for artistic talent, to enhance the quality of life for the residents and thereby attract newcomers, and to provide an attraction to draw tourists to the community. Art Exhibit: The Early American Swedish Colonial brought by Erik Burro (McConnell Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host The Early American Swedish Colonial Exhibit, a month-long exhibit brought by history advocate Erik Burro, founder of Pennjerdel House. The collection, which will be displayed in the McConnell Gallery during October, consists of free standing panels depicting the history of the New Sweden colony in southern New Jersey. The exhibit was created by the New Sweden Center in Wilmington, Delaware and the Swedish American History Museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the New Sweden Colony. On behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden, former Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, Peter Minuit, made land and trading arrangements with the Lenni Lenape to create the New Sweden colony along the banks of the Christina River in Delaware in 1638. Five years later a new fort was built along the Delaware River near what is now Salem, New Jersey. Fort Nya Elfborg was referred to as Fort Mosquito by the soldiers on guard. Lost Cause: How the South Saw the Civil War

Manchester Branch The Lost Cause was a movement created by the South to justify their guilt in starting the war and to establish themselves as victims of Northern aggression. It shows how Southern misinformation produced a racist, frequently violent culture that lasted until modern times. Art Exhibit: The Early American Swedish Colonial brought by Erik Burro (McConnell Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host The Early American Swedish Colonial Exhibit, a month-long exhibit brought by history advocate Erik Burro, founder of Pennjerdel House. The collection, which will be displayed in the McConnell Gallery during October, consists of free standing panels depicting the history of the New Sweden colony in southern New Jersey. The exhibit was created by the New Sweden Center in Wilmington, Delaware and the Swedish American History Museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the New Sweden Colony. On behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden, former Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, Peter Minuit, made land and trading arrangements with the Lenni Lenape to create the New Sweden colony along the banks of the Christina River in Delaware in 1638. Art Exhibit: The Early American Swedish Colonial brought by Erik Burro (McConnell Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host The Early American Swedish Colonial Exhibit, a month-long exhibit brought by history advocate Erik Burro, founder of Pennjerdel House. The collection, which will be displayed in the McConnell Gallery during October, consists of free standing panels depicting the history of the New Sweden colony in southern New Jersey. The exhibit was created by the New Sweden Center in Wilmington, Delaware and the Swedish American History Museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the New Sweden Colony. On behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden, former Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, Peter Minuit, made land and trading arrangements with the Lenni Lenape to create the New Sweden colony along the banks of the Christina River in Delaware in 1638. Five years later a new fort was built along the Delaware River near what is now Salem, New Jersey. Fort Nya Elfborg was referred to as Fort Mosquito by the soldiers on guard.
