Book and a Movie/“Crazy Rich Asians”

There’s rich and then there’s crazy rich. This contemporary romantic comedy—based on a 2013 global bestseller of the same name by Kevin Kwan—follows a Chinese American NYU economics professor and NYC native as she travels with her boyfriend to Singapore to meet his family only to discover that his family is one of the wealthiest families there. The film also introduced Awkwafina (the talented American actress and rapper that would go on to critical acclaim in “The Farewell”) to a broader audience. One huge question remains though—which version does a better job of putting this tale before the public: the book or the movie? You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema—1118 Washington Street—on Monday, November 18, at 7 PM. Watch the movie and then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie that follows. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library. Admission is FREE!!… Monday, November 18, 2019, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Lakeshore Cinema 1118 Washington Street Manitowoc, WI 54220. For more info visit manitowoclibrary.evanced.info.

A Conversation about Green Bay Correctional

We have a billion dollar decision to make. Join us on Thursday, November 21st 2019 at 6pm at Saint Matthew Church (130 Saint Matthew Street, Green Bay WI 54301) Welcome to Wisconsin where, in many communities, being taken away to jail or prison is more common than being sent off to college. The prison population in this state has more than tripled since 1990, burdening taxpayers, compromising public safety and hindering justice. The Green Bay Correctional Institute (GBCI) was constructed in 1898. It may require substantial capital improvements. A May 3, 2019 report of the Legislative Audit Bureau reported that many believe its antiquated design is not conducive to the efficient operation of a modern prison. The report said that, among Wisconsin’s prisons, GBCI is the best candidate for closure. The Allouez Village Board has unanimously supported the distribution of a petition supporting the decommissioning of GBCI. It is clear that, after 121 years, GBCI is nearing the end of its useful life. That… Thursday, November 21, 2019, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. 130 Saint Matthew Street, Green Bay WI 54301. Farce of Habit

Comic fireworks explode in “FARCE OF HABIT,” a Southern-fried romp that takes us back to a fishing lodge in the Ozarks. Proprietor D. Gene Wilburn is looking forward to a peaceful weekend, but there are only two chances of that happening: slim and none. Why has his wife picked these three days to begin caffeine withdrawal? Why is his son’s marriage falling apart so fast? How on earth would D. Gene’s sister get caught up in such a bizarre undercover police assignment? If this isn’t enough to thwart D. Gene’s weekend plans, he’s got a gaggle of nuns who’ve converged on the Inn for a nature retreat. Add to this a nationally known relationship guru whose colossal ego threatens everyone’s sanity; a shy retiree anxious to cut loose and embrace his “inner caveman” and a couple of wild women who may or may not be who they claim to be. Throw in a storm of the century, and D. Gene has no prayer of baiting a hook any time soon. Oh, and did we mention there’s an axe murderer on the loose? If you love hilarity, then… Thursday, November 21, 2019, 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM. Madonna Hall, 1793 Elm St. Wabeno, WI 54566. For more info visit wabenoareaplayers.brownpapertickets.com.

If you love hilarity, then… Friday, November 22, 2019, 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM. Madonna Hall, 1792 Elm St. Wabeno, WI 54566. For more info visit wabenoareaplayers.brownpapertickets.com.
